The “WAs.” Button was created to promote my first experimental film, titled “This Is WAs-TV,” which is/was, essentially, a play-back of the first four episodes of my FB live show of the same name. It now speaks to my current DADA work as well. The film is still available in the store, as well. BUT, the WAs Button speaks to much more than that. “WAs.” is an acknowledgement of the past, your personal past and how those events have formulated who you are, we are. I WAs _______ and now I am _______. “WAs” is an acknowledgement, oddly enough, of the present. And, being who you are “now,” in consideration of all that has passed. “Was” in German is “what.” DADA DADA DADA. I discovered this word, just “WAS.,” with the period, as one of a dozen large posters of the same one word, posted above a tunnel in Utrecht, in The Netherlands, one afternoon while on sabbatical there in 2017. Before I moved on to Munich, I clandestinely removed one of the posters. It can be seen in the film. “WAs.,” I believe is optimistically prophetic for all of us. The “WAs.” Button is unique. It is a conceptual and philosophical statement, a secret among “friends.” DADA DADA DADA. The button is just one-inch in diameter. It helps to identify DADA-ists and to support my DADA work. It is a conversation starter and DADA aide.
